Trailer

Lady, if you don’t like slow we’re walking, don’t drive on the sidewalk!” That’s what our bi-lingual group leader kindly said to the Yunnan Mrs. Magoo who was honking at us on our stroll back from the bank. It was just another day in China. Driving here is a free-for-all. People drive the wrong way down major one way streets, obeying red and green lights are optional. The rule is, if you are a pedestrian, don’t make eye contact with the car driver or the cyclist. If you do, the one with the biggest vehicle “wins”.
As for the bikes? The creativity will never cease to amaze me. Jeff is getting an old Chinese beater bike on Monday.

I remember the traffic when I went to Bejing a couple of years ago. It is quite chaotic with cars driving on streets, sidewalks, or anywhere else where there is a flat surface. There is not right-of-way! In Kuwait it is also based on how large your vehicle is. The larger the vehicle, the more rights they have. Also, if you are involved in an accident the fault is determined by your nationality. Expatriate -vs- Kuwaiti……..It is the expatriate’s fault usually.

I love the way you write about things and the way you see them :-) :-) I can picture and almost even smell the air in China through your words. :-) keep your sense of humor up and if it starts vanishing, just go for a walk and try to count the “normal” things you see on the street. I bet by the time you find the 5th one, (after 15 kms and 3 hours walking :-)) your mood will be way better :-) have a huge hug, lots of ice cream and all of my love, dare

I definitely need to see a picture of handsome red curly haired Jeff riding his bike among the crowd!
